Its a good game if you’re just starting to play visual novels but if you’re looking into well constructed stories that just draw you in, this game feels lacking. As it turns out, there are some dating simulators that are better than a real relationship. So here’s our list of games that might just cure a lonely heart. There are a lot of games out there that feel pretty sketchy.
This central female cast represents a typical otome game but you have to also remember Leon’s role here. He knows events from the game and because of his knowledge, he can potentially change outcomes. That’s what happens throughout the story as certain game events are altered or occurs at different time frames. In essence, this is like changing routes in a game with previous acquired knowledge.
The two form an instant bond – especially on Zen’s side – and they fall in love. Though each episode presents another antagonist of the week, the main focus is on Shirayuki and Zen’s relationship as they learn to balance work and each other. The two end up dating from then on out while riding through all the ups and downs that come with relationships. This show is a look into the lives of adults who are tired of hiding and ready to be themselves. Full of anime and gaming references, this story is a rare look at the dating lives of adults in anime. Though the ending left fans wanting, it is still a great watch for older fans looking for a refreshing romance.

That reminds me that the majority of the male cast are forgetable. To me, they are the supporting cast with limited roles other than to be partnered with the female cast. Oh and of course, some of them fall victim to Marie’s twisted plans so that adds bonus points for their uselessness. Leon practically carries this anime with his mental intellect and knowledge of the game world. Even if you don’t like Leon, you have to admit that he is one, if not the most talented character in the show. Though Emily is Away isn’t a visual novel, it is still technically a dating sim.
This sci-fi strategy dating sim has multiple games which could be played on the PS2, Xbox, and PC. There is an original trilogy as well as a sequel trilogy. Those who watch the anime and those who play the games might know the characters as different people though, as their personalities are altered depending on the media. It is another otome game and contains five different storylines. The player chooses a card deck symbol between Heart, Spade, Clover, Diamond, and Joker, each standing for one story route with a specific male character. As the game title hints at, the main character has amnesia.
The story’s protagonist is Kazuki Sendō and he is at a monthly Comic Party convention. The player’s choices both influence how many copies of his work he can sell as well as which woman at the convention he can date. The games are not known for their plot, as they mostly come down to interacting with virtual female characters and trying to get their intimacy meter up. It doesn’t matter much really since I’ve grown to dislike the majority of the character cast after the final episode. Sometimes, storytelling with these type of genres work. First, the audience have every right to think this may be another cash grab at the recurring isekai tropes in today’s industry. Isekai comes in all shape and sizes except this one throw in a few twists. Nonetheless, I also admit this show does justice at establishing Leon as a knowledgable protagonist. He may be a mob but he also represents far from being a useless NPC type character.
Though it takes a while for them to kiss, the two young people enjoy each other’s company as they go on dates and hang out on school trips. Despite not being an actual couple, the two are technically dating but just not in the traditional sense. Yet, through the constant mistakes and misunderstandings, the two do start to grow genuine feelings for each other throughout the series. This quickly strengthens the bond between Ako and Rusian, and their in-game love starts to become the real deal by episode six.
I kind of would’ve loved a polyamorous Zaina/Alex/Finn ending. I say this a lot when I play this type of games, but sometimes there’s a couple/route that feels Official™ and in this case that’s them. I see some of myself in each of them, which was nice, too.
